A little about my practice
The idea of image ‘value’ is a theme I explore throughout my practice. In a world of unlimited photographs and over-saturation of images, the language of photography is continuing to change dramatically. This commodification of images and the change of language surrounding it has led to the question of image value
Through the on-going series ‘Hey there! I am using WhatsApp’ (‘I’m dressed as a condor’ and ‘Went to Pisa’), I am exploring the idea of image value by taking the photographs sent to me via Whatsapp groups from friends and family, and painting them as traditional portraits – altering their course and embedding them within the history of traditional portraiture, imposing a value on the images that they were never meant to have.
